still learning....faith and trust

hang with me this may be a long one

don’t let this sweet, funny, spunky little cutie in this video fool you.  this dude has been down and out for the better part of going on almost two weeks.  he has had on thing or another that he just can’t seem to shake.  our most current ailments include have included rev, flu, and newly diagnosed asthma along with two other bacteria roaming around this studs body.  not sure which came first the chicken or the egg but either way my man cub has been pretty sick.

last week we figured all this out just in time to be put on some meds right before christmas when everything closes, because what would be the fun of having all this while everything stayed open right?  no biggie i thought.  i see this stuff all the time and i totally know my pediatrician is up to date on all that is going on.  only thing was i didn’t anticipate how the whole asthma would play into the sickness.

things 4 started grunting and was having a small amount of trouble catching his breath on and off last thursday night and stopped taking in all fluids (food had long time since gone away).  i gave him back to back breathing treatments and treatments through the night and he seemed better.

the following day he refused all fluids of any kind and the grunting was back and slightly worse at times.  so baby g and headed to one of our local children’s ER not to far away for help with what to do about the breathing and fluids maybe.

this truly is where the story begins you could have skipped all that stuff up there.  we got to the ER and waited our hour and a half process to get our room, which honestly i thought wasn’t that bad for the wait times i am seeing in ERs right now.  (our local {small town} hospital had a wait time of 6 hours Friday just to get in a room).  once back in the room i was treated like an idiot from the nurse first but mainly the ER physician.

waiting room fun
-----we recently this past summer switched pecs offices from a very large office to a much smaller office-----

a few things first.  i am normally a very good read of people from the first time i meet them.  call it intuition or whatever you want but it’s a gift.  it’s the reason i felt lead to leave our old peds office.  we had our favorite dr and she moved and i tried many of the almost 20 other drs and just couldn’t shake the feeling it wasn’t right for us to be there anymore.  it’s also how i new at the new office i new it would be a perfect fit from the very first time i walked in the building.

okay i digress, back to the subject at hand.  no lie y’all the ER physician (which i admit it’s hard not to put them in a god-like figure when your baby is sick as a dog) told me the following things:

1.  i was wrong about who my pediatrician was because she (ER dr) knew them personally and knew she had left an old practice so i couldn’t be correct with the name i gave

2.  again i was incorrect due to the fact that the second providers name i gave was at the old peds office and the ER dr “knew” that these two people didn’t get along and that’s why the first dr left the original practice

** i probably at this point should have realized that said ER physician was a loser but when your kid is sick i think you overlook a lot and logic goes straight out the window**

3.  i did tell the ER dr we had been diagnosed with a number of things including RSV.  she took this to mean her job was done and NEVER fully checked my child out.  she listened to his back for less than 30 seconds and that was it.  never listened to the front, didn’t check his ears, nose, throat, nothing else!!

4.  told me me drs office gave me misinformation when diagnosing him in the first place.  she went on to say that the “test” they did couldn’t be done and that my drs office had no way of even testing for about half of the things they told me they tested for.

y’all i wish i could say that was it but i’d be lying.

5.  she asked who the on call dr was at the office and when i told her there wasn’t one she insisted there had to be and demanded that i call the office right then and there on speaker phone so she could “talk to them and educate them on this stuff”

6.  told me that what i brought me kid in for (difficulty breathing and fluids) was all just a part of having RSV and she wasn’t going to do anything because there wasn’t anything to do.

+++++while i do understand it is viral his is slightly different with the asthma and grunting paired with it.

7.  she even went so far as to tell me to stop everything my dr had told me to do.  she said stop breathing treatments “because it will make the RSV worse” she said and stop the antibiotics “because there’s no way they could have even test him for that” she also said.

after over an hour of trying to get him to take fluids he broke down and ate a popsicle
i was discharged from the er and left feeling like i must have made the wrong decision bringing him in and that i had over reacted.

this morning we followed up with our amazing pediatricians office and guess what....while he is mildly better i think mainly because the flu is gone or on the way out and we were ably to get fluids in him........he was wheezing just as bad and still grunting

so from now on i will have faith and trust that i now my child better than an ER physician who thinks i’m crazy.  i will lean on the fact that i am at the exact pediatric office where God wants me, with incredible drs that are extremely talented and absolutely love my kids.  it’s amazing the peace i have been given when talking to and seeking the help of wise council in the office i have found.

2014 christmas letter

with the end of 2014 upon us i was looking back over all we have accomplished this year.  so here is my christmas letter that never got sent out

big brother has managed to almost perfect his ability to annoy his sisters at any given second.  a skill that he thinks is hilarious and they don't yet understand why it makes him laugh so hard.  he is also right on the verge of flushing every time now too, can i get an amen!, the aim will hopefully come in 2015

thing 2 has mastered every frozen song known to mankind and then made up some of her own.  she has also made this mama very happy by cutting her breakfast eating/getting dressed for school time down from one hour to around 35-45 minutes on a good day.  we no longer have to start waking her up at 630am for an 820am school start time.

my little tornado whirl wind is thriving in pre-school.  according to her, her teacher tells a student daily that they smell like a "tinkie diapa".  she loves frozen as much as her big sister; however elsa is NOT her favorite.  she's an anna girl all the way.  she has also become a professional ninja with the way she has perfected her ability to sneak into the middle of my bed in the middle of the night 100% undetected until she kicks you in the face when you get in her territory.

baby boy, a.k.a. gus gus, is not to be out done by his older siblings.  he is top notch in playing the big puppy dog eyes and getting picked up.  he also flashed them when he even thinks you may be eating something he might enjoy too.  everyone wants to know what he can say and we all smile and laugh about it but he is pretty much a non verbal communicator.  he relies on the older crew to take care of his ever need, and they oblige with this pretty good.  when i ask them not to do or get something for him until he says the word all i hear is, "but mommy he is a baby. he needs us!"  looks like he will be entering kindergarten with 3 assistants to color his worksheets for him.  and most important he makes a muffin top look amazing - hence the name "gus gus" as in the mouse from cinderella.

as for jason and i we have finally given up any hope at all of ever having a clean house.  i mean what is clean anyways.  so what, our house isn't as organized as all the sale items honey boo boo's mom has stocked up on......but we we haven't been called for hoarders either so i consider that a small victory.

hope 2014 was filled with as much to celebrate as we had!  small victories people with small people.

back in the swing

it’s been way to long since i’ve stopped to journal about my people.  we have had a million and one things going on, as most people do but i am realizing the importance of me just taking the time to write it down so i can look back and tell them all the stories i have forgotten.  let’s face it i have a hard enough time remembering the day to day now, God help me in 10-20 years.  for now i’m going to start with the most current and backtrack as i recall them.

most recent was thing 3 and her precious christmas program at school.  she is spirited to say the least.  it comes in waves though.  as in she may not participate at all and then BAM! she may kiss the boy next door (or next to) her.

*we will be working on self control over the christmas break*

God is so good

God is so good isn't he!  I took our precious two year old in for a sick visit a little over a month ago and while they couldn't find anything wrong with her they did find something else.  they found a heart murmur on my sweet full of heart baby girl.  they said it was nothing.  they said i shouldn't worry.  they said no need to do anything about right then.
they said if was still there at her three year check up then they would send us to a cardiologist.  well last week i took the kids in for their flu shots and had them take a listen.  still there so i was told to take her to sibley.

we were able to get an appt. two days after which made this mamma's heart very very happy.  yes, she does have a heart murmur but after a few test and the doctors listen they said it was a 'normal' murmur and no need for a revisit. PRAISE GOD!

time please slow down

this week was thing #3’s first week of preschool.  now, you would think that by the third kid dropping them off at preschool would be no big deal.  well it is a big deal still, because it’s their first time. it’s the first time they go into a class with people they don’t know.  it’s the first time you wont be there to see their expression when they learn something completely new and fun.  in our case with big siblings...it’s the first time the get made because they can’t ride the bus yet. :)

then you suddenly realize it’s a bunch of first leading up to their last.  their last first day of school.  the last time they let you hug or kiss them goodbye.  the last time you rock them.  the last time you kiss their boo boo and suddenly everything is okay again.

today i am so very thankful for the time that i get to spend with my children before they are grown.  it is going by so quick.  (my baby is already 16 months) what?
i’m thankful that my third grader stopped on the first day of school and came back to hug and kiss me goodbye just one more time before he went into his class.
i’m thankful my five six year old is happy to snuggle in my bed a few minutes in the morning when she wakes up early on saturdays before she heads in the living room to watch cartoons.
i’m thrilled that when i kiss my two year olds boo boos it magically fixes anything that may be wrong.
and i am so thankful for a 16 month old who lets me rock him to bed sometimes when he wants his momma  his momma needs him to be little for just a little bit longer.

praying i can slow down long enough to enjoy these amazing blessing God has bestowed upon me.

off to a great start

phew!  we made it thru the first week of another school year.  it’s official both the bigs love their new teachers and classes.  big c has sub for the first 9 weeks because he teacher just had a baby but she is comfortable with that and is doing well at her new school.  as for g, well this is old hat now for him.  but third grade is no joke.  can you believe he had to do work on the first day of school?  his teaacher did win cool points however with it being a graph done with skittles that they got to eat when they where done! :)

beach livin'

ahhh the beach.  we just got back from a wonderful week at one of our favorite beaches.  not really because the beach is all that awesome but the whole 'experiance' is.  hilton head island, sc to be exact.  they kids love having a pool and a beach right at their finger tips and i love that it;s pretty low key.  we also really enjoy riding bikes as a family and hhi was miles of super flat trails my kids can handle for a long time.  and how can you beat a good bike ride ending at the pool for a cool off?

this year we got to spend the week their with my parents.  they kids had a blast swimming with them and going for rides while they walked with them. so very thankful for trips where we can just relax and spend time together.

hello summer

i am sooo far beyhind since my last post.  granger has turned one and is on the move evrywhere!  he is seriously into everything.  he is happy ALL the time.  no joke, he is currently cutting two bottom incissors but is still mostly cheerful all the time.   your current stats escape me at the current moment but you are off the charts to say the least.  they are worried about your weight - i am not.  they are worried about your length - i am not.  you are chugging right along.  in case they have forgotten your mother is 5’1” on a really good day.  as far as percentage you aren’t even on the charts right now.  a few months back you were in the 1% but now you have fallen off the charts totally.  such a trend setter already.  one thing is for sure you are a ham.  always smiling, always playing, always wanting in someone’s lap (mainly mine).  we love you g man.

corley paige is full of herself pretty much at all times - ha!  coco you love to dance whenever the feeling strikes you, no music required.  you do love to let other feel included but have no problem rocking it by yourself either.  you are a total mess and we love it (most of the time).  you are full of life.  we are geraing up for summer and then starting in the fall you will start school two days a week at bright beginings.  hope they are ready for the huricane known as coco.

colbie. oh sweet colbie via, last night we attended your kindergatern graduation and watched as you reached a huge milestone.  how is it even possible that you are now done with kindergarten?  it seems like grayson was just starting his kindergarten year and now you are done with yours?!  you did a fantastic job in your play.  as you walked across that stage mrs. gray read that you wanted to be a nurse when you grow up.  while you have never said that to daddy or i, i can totally see you as a nurse.  you take care of each and everyone in the house and make sure everyone has all that they need to make it through the day.  to our 1st grader (what?) - momma and daddy love to to infinity and beyond sweet girl.  we are so very proud of you!

the BEST kindergarten teacher EVER! and sweet CV

and to grayson my 3rd grader now. 3rd GRADE!  time is passing so quick now.  i can't believe that you will begin your 3rd grade year in just a few short months.  i am so thankful that you had such an amazing year with dr. hicks.  what a wonderful teacher she has been this past year.  you have grown tremendously and i have enjoyed every minute of watching you transform.  you are the very best big brother i have ever seen, always taking care of your little sisters and brother.  we are very proud of the young man you are.  i can't wait to have a great summer with you!
